about

Static Massive

an FPV lifestyle brand born out of guerrilla whooping.

transmitting for the people.

It started with analog goggles, a bag of tinywhoops and whatever spot was open that night. Downtown highrises, stairwells, bandos, a lipo swap on the curb. The brand puts out apparel, original FPV photography, zines, apps and films, including Kamakaze Tsunami, a guerrilla whoop film shot on analog and handycam in Japan.

Tinywhoops and analog are home base. 5 inch freestyle, bando and urbex pilots are part of it too. If you've ever threaded a gap you had no business trying, you already get it.

definitionwhat is guerrilla whooping?

Guerrilla whooping is flying tinywhoop FPV drones through city spots like stairwells, parking structures, underpasses and downtown buildings, low key and unplanned.

You'll see it spelled guerrilla whoop, guerilla whoop or gorilla whoop. Same thing. No field, no gates, no club night. A bag of whoops, goggles, a radio, and whatever spot is open.

field guidehow to guerrilla whoop

Everything we've learned flying spots we probably shouldn't have. Read it before your first session, not after.

CH 01the kit

  • 65mm tinywhoop on 1S. Modern builds run 30,000KV+ motors, so a 65 does everything a 75 does, just quieter. Quiet is the whole game in busy spots and strict cities like Tokyo.
  • Pocket radio. If it doesn't fit in a pocket, it's too big for the street.
  • How to carry it: goggles around your neck, radio in your top pocket, whoop in the other pocket. You look like a guy out for a walk, not a film crew.
  • Light bag. Just enough for the day, plus a fanny pack for the extras. There's a lot of walking. Sometimes running.

CH 02at the spot

  • Foot level or overhead. Never head level.
  • Don't annoy people. Every bad run-in is one more reason for someone to hate drones, and the whole hobby pays for it.
  • Watch the dogs. Not every dog is cool with a whoop. Give them room.
  • Walk every angle first. Know your lines, your exits and who's around before you plug in.
  • Hot spot? 1–2 packs. In and out. A crash in the wrong place means that whoop isn't coming back.

CH 03when someone shows up

  • Leave when asked. Better: offer to leave before they ask. That's how you get to come back without a trespass.
  • ✕"be cool, it's the cops."

    ✓"just flying my toy, sir."

  • Know the zoning. Malls, plazas and stations can have weird rules, and some of it is federal, not city. Know what you're getting into.
  • The motto: ask forgiveness, not permission. Move like a ninja.

CH 04the mindset

  • Whoops get lost. Don't expect to bring one home, or a working one. If you pushed it, you're getting better.
  • Usually nobody cares, especially when you fly like this. The bigger the city, the less anyone looks up. Tokyo is the exception.
  • Want people to follow you? Put a QR code on the back of your stickers, or carry an NFC tap card. Fastest way to swap handles at the spot.

don't push your luck.

questionsquick answers

What is guerrilla whooping?

Flying tinywhoop FPV drones through city spots like stairwells, parking structures, underpasses and downtown buildings, low key and unplanned.

Is gorilla whoop the same as guerrilla whoop?

Yes. Guerrilla whoop, guerilla whoop and gorilla whoop all mean the same style of flying. Guerrilla is the correct spelling.

What drone is best for guerrilla whooping?

A 65mm tinywhoop on a 1S battery, ideally with 30,000KV or higher motors. It does everything a 75mm does but quieter, which matters in busy spots and strict cities like Tokyo. Fly it with FPV goggles and a pocket-sized radio.

How do you guerrilla whoop without getting kicked out?

Fly at foot level or overhead, never at head level. Scout every angle of the spot first, keep it to one or two packs at busy spots, give people and dogs space, and leave when asked, or offer to leave before you are asked.

What should you bring to a guerrilla whoop session?

A 65mm tinywhoop, a pocket-sized radio, FPV goggles worn around your neck, one or two batteries for busy spots, and a light bag or fanny pack for the extras.

Is there a guerrilla whoop film?

Kamakaze Tsunami: The Nihon Tapes, shot on analog and handycam in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka by @kazifpv and @thatbanana. Get the film and zine.

Is guerrilla whooping the same as urbex?

They overlap. Urbex is exploring abandoned or off-limits places. Guerrilla whooping is about flying a tinywhoop through city spots, abandoned or not.

What does Static Massive make?

FPV apparel printed when you order, original FPV photography prints, zines, free apps for pilots, and films.

Is Static Massive the same as Static Mass?
